The minimum income has been £29,000 since 11 April 2024. Planned rises to £34,500 and £38,700 were paused after a 2025 review, and as of October 2026 no new figure has been set. Rules checked October 2026.

What the rules require
- Relationship
- Genuine and subsisting, and you intend to live together in the UK.
- Money
- £29,000 a year gross from permitted sources, or savings, or a mix. Some earlier applicants can still use £18,600.
- English
- A1 for the first application, A2 at extension, and the settlement level later. The settlement level is due to rise in 2027.
- Accommodation
- Adequate housing for you, your partner and any dependants, without public funds.

What is the minimum income for a spouse visa?
£29,000 a year for applications made since 11 April 2024. Further rises were paused after the Migration Advisory Committee reported in June 2025, and as of October 2026 the government has not set a new figure. If your partner first applied before 11 April 2024, you may still be able to use the old £18,600 figure. We confirm what applies to you.
Can savings or other income count?
Yes. Cash savings above £16,000 can make up a shortfall, and some pension, rental and self-employment income counts. Each category has strict evidence rules, so we check yours before you rely on it.
Can my partner work on this visa?
Yes. A partner visa carries no restriction on employment.
How long until my partner can settle?
On the 5-year partner route, settlement is currently possible after 5 years in total. Settlement reforms have been proposed; we will tell you if they affect your timeline.
